In a 2-D Mario platformer, how do you instantly make a stage much more difficult? Put in a Lakitu, of course! They follow Mairo around and are an endless source of obstacles, and they have reserves in case Mario gets rid of one. How do you insatantly make it even harder? Add in a second one! How do you make it hair-pullingly hard? Add in a third, which is what is done here. What is otherwise a pretty normal stage is made a lot harder by the trio of Lakitus and their Spinies they throw overboard, hence this stage's name. Moving platforms makes judging the Spiny paths more difficult too.
The key to dealing with a Lakitu-based threat is to move as quickly as possible. They have bad aim, and in doing so, you space out their Spiny tossing. Of course, this only applies where it's possible, unlike in New Super Mario Bros. 2's Impossible Pack, where you CAN'T go forward quickly. But you can here.
