Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! Playthrough 19: Life Gambling
The next destination is Celadon City, but first we must go through Route 8, and take the underground path to get there. There are some very tricky Trainers to battle with, and the Gamers, which used to be called Gamblers back in the Red & Blue days, have high level Pokémon that know a 1-hit KO move, like Horn Drill.
As the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description.
That Level 35 Seaking can be very tough for unprepared Trainers, but thankfully Horn Drill has 5 uses, which then makes it Struggle if you have a team of 6 Pokémon.
As for the new encounters for Route 8, they are evolved forms of Pokémon encountered in previous routes, in this case, Arcanine or Ninetales depending on your game, or Kadabra. You can catch their pre-evolutions on this route as well.
Kadabra unfortunately won't have any Psychic-type moves when caught in the wild, since it will have Flash and Night Shade, but the TM for Psychic is very close by, and it can be evolved immediately into Alakazam through trade, giving you a very powerful Special Attacker.
As for Ninetales and Arcanine, they both missed out on Flamethrower, which their pre-evolutions can learn by level up at this point, but Ninetales can learn Will-O-Wisp through TM, but it isn't till a long time that you can teach it Flamethrower through TM.
Arcanine is the same deal as Ninetales, it has missed Crunch and Heat Wave when caught in the wild, so it relies on TMs to be usable, and to those wondering when I am going to evolve Growlithe since you get a Fire Stone on this route, and since I have Flamethrower and Crunch, I could evolve Growlithe right away, but I will wait till I get Flare Blitz in order to evolve my Growlithe, so it will be a tough road for me, and the lack of Eviolite or held items will be a challenge, but that training will pay off once I get Flare Blitz on Growlithe.
There is a rare spawn on Route 7, and that Pokémon is Porygon, the Virtual Pokémon. Unfortunately for Porygon, it is not that great, it can't evolve in this game, so it is just a Pokédex filler, but it has such a great movepool, and comes with Tri Attack when caught, and gets Recover through level up. Porygon is even able to learn Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Psychic and many other moves through TM, but its stats don't cut it as a great Pokémon, so I cannot recommend Porygon, as neither Porygon2 or Porygon-Z are available in this game, it's very unfortunate that I have to turn down such a cool Pokémon.
There is a Coach Trainer on Route 7 who will give you the TM for Facade, which is a useful replacement for Headbutt on slower Pokémon, as the damage doubles when inflicted with a status condition.
