S T A L K E R: Call of Pripyat - ( 2022 ) Video #193: The Missing Sentry
As I had done in Zaton, I took Nitro all my weapons that needed the third-tier upgrades, and just like in Zaton, I didn't bother with all the various armors that I had that really hadn't been upgraded at all. I decided I would go back for my GP-37 another times, as it did cost 5,000 rubles just to go to Pripyat one way, while Jupiter to Zaton travel was just 1,000 rubles. I loaded up on ammo and other things I would need in Pripyat and shortly Gary and I left for Jupiter.
Arriving in Pripyat, this time I remembered I could get free repairs on all the weapons I had stored from looting all the Zombies and Monolith, so that took up a lot of time going through them all and putting them back. Finally, I was done and ready to talk to Colonel Kovalsky about Item 62 and the missing sentry.
The missing sentry was at the Old Grocery Store, a place I had been before and to my surprise he was still alive when I got there, but not at first it seemed. It was as if he spawned alive once I reached a certain point, that I normally would have detected him much sooner. When I went inside the building, he was spinning around and shooting wildly and babbling nonsense. Then he fell over dead and as I went over to check on him I heard the groan of a Controller and my vision turned blue as I ran deeper inside the building so that direct visual contact would be broken, which is how the Mind Pull worked that the Controller used.
I found and killed the Controller and then a cutscene appeared with me talking to Kovalsky but at the same time some Pseudodogs ran up. As soon as it ended, I was being mauled by Pseudodogs as I tried to climb on top of some shelving as I fought them. Soon I was done with this location, so I decided to go south and explore that corner of Pripyat. Before I knew it, I was back at the Book Store and there was an amusement car outside the building that I found an open stash inside of it.
Stepping back up on the outer edge of the building, I realized that the windows on the side would have been a much better angle to flank and surprise the Monolith than the frontal attack I had used. I need to keep focused and try better angles of attack in the future. While looking inside something caught my eyes on the shelf, it was a brick of ammo and going back inside to retrieve it, I realized there was an open stash of a rifle and ammo that I had missed when I was here before. That was two quick stashes that I found, and it was time to get back to the Laundromat.
After reporting back to Colonel Kovalsky, he theorized that the Controller may have directed the previous four-man squad to shoot each other rather than an ambush from the Monolith. We were losing too many men and there were no replacements that we could count on. Hopefully Kovalsky will stop sending out men who are not experienced enough to deal with the Zone.
