Your pixilated dungeon explorer is back for more challenging adventures. Return to the pixel-art world of danger here in Meganoid 2. Just like your last adventure, your task here is to explore and finish tombs, temples, and dungeons. You must reach for the torch in order to complete the level. Don't forget to avoid the traps set in each level; falling boulders, spike pits, snakes, and bats. You will get trophies base on your achievements. Finish the level quickly to earn the trophy. Locate hidden areas or pathways to locate special items that will grant you another trophy once you finished the level.

Platformers are probably some of the oldest types of games out there, and also some of the longest lived in terms of popularity. And that's with good reason, as despite their difficulty (Nintendo hard, anyone?) they can be some of the most fulfilling and satisfying games to play. Although they're not quite as plentiful as they once were, there are a few out there on the market (so to speak) which are certainly able to hold their own against the platformers of yesteryear, and Meganoid 2 is one of those platformers.

Seeing as how this is the second game in the series, made quite obvious by the "2" in the name of the game, it should be fairly evident that the first game was fun enough to warrant a second. Now, we won't be talking all that much about the first game, but suffice to say that it was indeed a whole lot of fun, and should you get the chance, you should definitely think about nabbing yourself a copy of that along with this one.

Now, while this game keeps the same fun and gameplay of the first game, it improves a whole ton in the graphics department. While the first game certainly had serviceable graphics that did the job of providing interesting-looking gameplay well enough, this really ups the bar in terms of how pretty it looks. The game still has that NESy feel to it, but there's been a lot in the way of improvement in terms of animations, environments, etc... It's still obviously reminiscent of the first game, but provides a lovely evolution for the visuals.

Like the first game, this one also has some really great sound effects, particularly in the music department. Again, the sound feels (or perhaps, at the risk of redundancy, "sounds"?) like something out of a Mega Man game in all of the best ways. The sound effects do, however, seem to be recycled from the first game, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as the effects from the first were pretty good already.

The controls are identical to those from the first game, with two on-screen buttons on the left side of your device allowing you to move left and right, and a jump button on the right side of your screen that allows you to jump. Tapping the jump button twice will activate the inexplicable platformer ability to double jump, allowing you to reach areas you would not otherwise be able to.

As with the controls, the gameplay is mostly retained from the first game. It does, of course, have different levels, all the better to confound you with. There are also a lot of different things to pick up along with more hidden areas to figure out how to get to. Just like the first game, you'll be at this one for a long time just trying to get at everything it has to offer. Thankfully, you pretty much have an unlimited number of tries to attempt it, so no worries about chucking your device at the wall in frustration.
