I suppose I should attempt my rank-up battle. Here we go, Rainmaker with the Range Blaster. Those Curling Bombs are nice, and I trade a Suction Bomb with someone. I swiftly head back and get some height, where I miss the Splatana Wiper and have to drop off the dropping bridge. I hide from a Hammer, but pop up to try to splat the Rainmaker. I miss, and run away. I jink one way then the other, and take on a Crab, before trying to catch up with the Rainmaker. They've hopped the gap, but thankfully dropped the Rainmaker, and I provide some covering blasts as my squidmates recover it.

I take the alternative route, which seems like a good idea, not realising my squidmates have hopped the gap in response. At least me and a squidmate provide a good distraction, and split the purple team's attention. I want to move across and directly support, though, but my plan to quickly nab the Rainmaker and run with it are thwarted by the purple team snatching it quickly. I continue my disruption as best I can but am splatted back to base.

Our position remains good, and the purple team don't move the Rainmaker off the ridge. That is, however, when our Carbon Roller disappears. I don't realise at the time, though, and blissfully continue battling on as if we are a full squad. It is perhaps no surprise in retrospect, knowing that we are missing a squidmate, that the purple team push back effectively, even if a bit slowly at first.

I make a mistake in pressing forwards at a poor time, getting swamped from two angles, but at least I get a splat first. The Rainmaker is stopped, and it looks like they will jump the gap too. I reset there, but in aiming for one splat I make myself vulnerable to another. The Rainmaker resets too, though, giving me some time to return, back to the ridge. I splat one inkling coming across and try to stop another, but the ink overwhelms me, as it does my squidmates. A Wipeout gives them a free path for a few seconds.

The Rainmaker takes the straightforward route, which with a Wipeout is not a bad idea, and they equal our lead. I don't think the realise that another step forwards would pretty much secure them the game, and they step back to start blasting us. That gives my squidmates time to splat the Rainmaker and more, and I only survive the Rainmaker blast by having my short shield still. I do the sensible thing and wait and watch, as my squidmates return, and consider reseting the Rainmaker. My squidmate takes it instead, and is immediately splatted by the Splash-o-matic. I get revenge, which was nearly preventative, and we're back to where we were.

The Rainmaker is close, the purple team are there. We just need to stop them moving forwards. My Wave Breaker charges, so I through a Suction Bomb, then the Wave Breaker, leaving me ink to blast with. It does the trick, the Wave Breaker forcing the Rainmaker to be dropped as it is picked up. With under twenty seconds left, my squimdates grab the Rainmaker and keep it safe, as I probe the purple ink. All is good, and we win a battle that was a bit too close for comfort, and where I didn't know we were missing anyone until the end. Woomy!
