We're celebrating 5 years of #SuperOldGameSaturday this year, so for 2025, we have a new initiative/segment of the show we'll be having a monthly entry of (and after this year, sporadic entries of), called #SuperOldGameSaturday 2nd Chance. For this, we'll be returning to a game we've played before, either to address technical problems from earlier shows, on the request of you in the best chat on Twitch if there was a game you wish you were there live for the first time and also, for the few games we have left from the very early days of the show that we no longer have recordings of. The latter case is where we find Halo: Combat Evolved, the great and, at the time, out of nowhere 2001 Xbox first-person shooter from Microsoft and Bungie that has you play as the Master Chief, a space warrior seeking the answers to a ring that's caught the attention of the alien race known as the Covenant, with the help of Captain Keyes, a fellow group of UNSC marine soldiers and a female AI named Cortana. For this play, we used the version of 2011's Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary from Xbox 360 within the Halo Master Chief Collection on Xbox One and via its Xbox Series S/X enhancement to play through all 10 levels of this game's classic campaign, along with the great deep-dive into the game that we do here and the great insights and discussion from the best chat on Twitch, who were certainly on board for this one to go into their memories of this game, other first-person shooters (and the landscape of them on PC and consoles at the time), the overlap between first-person shooters with light gun shooters, the great art direction/use of color in this game, all of the twists and turns of this great story and much more. I had a great time returning to Halo for this show to give it the official record that it deserves and I'm looking forward to the other #SuperOldGameSaturday 2nd Chance entries we have each month this year (and I welcome all of your suggestions for those, so feel free to leave them in the comments below and we'll get to them).
