Trouble is just a tunnel away from you. And that's the twist because you are inside a very long tunnel in this survival game known as Tunnel Trouble 3D. Your mission here is to control your spaceship and drive inside this very long tunnel. You must survive inside and avoid crashing from the tunnel's walls and giant mines inside. There are two modes you can try out; Survival Mode and Mine Mode. The longer you stay alive in the tunnel, the higher the score achieved. Keep note that the speed of the spaceship also goes faster and faster as you stay alive.

Endless runners are a whole lot of fun. There's something about the manic speed, the need for lightning fast reflexes, and the heart-pounding excitement that makes them such fun. Tunnel Trouble 3D is kind of an endless runner, in that it features many of the same mechanics such as running through (as the name would suggest) an endless track of obstacles, the simple controls, etc... It is not, however, an endless -runner- as you'll be flying around in space in this game.

Most endless runners are some sort of variation on the Temple Run theme these days, with an over the shoulder cam looking at the action as you run through some sort of improbable labyrinth of obstacles. This retains the third-person cam, but it does change a lot of things from the basic formula.

Before we get to the actual gameplay though, let's have a look at how the game looks first. The game is, as if it weren't obvious from the title of said game, in 3D. The 3D is pretty well done, and while it's not going to go up against any next-gen video games, it's certainly a cut above the rest when it comes to 3D games for mobile devices. The way everything is modeled and rendered works really well with the game, setting the atmosphere and ambiance for the fast-paced, break-neck speed you'll be going at.

What's more, the music adds to the experience as well, really cultivating the speed-demon aspect of the game. It's just upbeat and fast-paced enough that you'll really get into the feel of the game. There isn't all that much in the way of sound effects, but truth be told, they would mostly just get in the way of the fun of the game. But enough of the looks and sounds, let's get to the actual game.

As with any other endless runner, you take control of a player character that dashes forward at ever faster speed. There is a difference though, while other endless runners have you going in a straight line with the occasional swipe left or swipe right to turn corners, or perhaps a tap or swipe up to duck or jump respectively, this game gives you a lot more freedom in how you move. You're not just swiping, but rather controlling where your ship is placed on the screen with a little virtual joystick. This can make for some niftier moves, and you'll need them, as obstacles can also move around rather than just being static as in other games.

Specifically, there are barriers that open and close not unlike in Prince of Persia, and you'll be getting much of the same gut-wrenching feel with them. What's more fun though are the spinning obstacles, where you're faced with a huge metal wall with circular or triangular (or what-have-you-lar) openings. These walls rotate, so while you may be angled correctly at one point, by the time you get to it you might have veered off course. As if those weren't enough, you've also got minefields that are reminiscent of bullet hell games, but with mines of course.
