Ultima IX - Tidbits #41: Map warp cancel without cheats
An entrance to other map is always sealed from the source map, which is easiest to be seen with the flying cheat. Walking normally on the winding corridors activates the warp placing the player on the other map, but so far I know two ways to stay on the source map.
#1:
By walking backwards immediately after a warp, you see the blocked off end of the new map's part that points to the one from where you came. You normally don't see this.
#2:
By jumping over the point of the warp, but opening and closing a book in midair, the Avatar is immediately placed on the destination point and anything inbetween won't be triggered. This means the map warp doesn't happen, either.
Credit to Cid for this, because although I found about this jump canceling myself, he revealed me the exact mechanics and then I remembered that he already mentioned it in some form.
Of course Cid and other possible speedrunners and gaming artists use it to cancel event triggers, when it's needed for the planned route. For that, it has surely even more potential than documented so far.
As for this map warp cancel, maybe it's just a quick fun, enabling you to see what you normally wouldn't, in a clean way, without cheats. I wonder if it can have any practical use.
I actually really like dungeon walls and winding corridors in UIX, so I enjoyed it.
