Thanks to Annetta, Ezio's family could take shelter in her sister's place, a brothel run by Paola. In return, she would teach Ezio how to survive, blending among the crowd and snatching money from them. After learning the basics of survival, Paola guides Ezio to Leonardo, who is able to not only fix the hidden blade but modify it; so now he won't need to lose a finger to use it.
Now armed with his new weapon, Ezio attempts to track down Uberto, Paola's girls revealing his location at the Santa Croce cloister. While stalking from above, there seems to be a conversation between Uberto and Lorenzo de' Medici, the former noting the latter had crowned himself as Principe of Firenze. He warns that Lorenzo would attract the wrong kind of attention, the kind that would be willing to kill him, given how Uberto mentions having allies.
With no time left to waste, Ezio walks among the crowd and enters the cloister, carefully maneuvering across the halls until confronts Uberto in broad daylight. There, he performs his first assassination, exacting his revenge against the man who betrayed his family; the one who killed his father and brothers. Ezio makes himself known to the public, that the Auditore are not dead. Ezio escapes the crowd, dodging the arrows from the soldiers attacking him from the rooftops.
With nowhere else to run within Firenze, Ezio takes it upon himself to take Claudia and Maria away to Monteriggoni, where a villa owned by his uncle should provide a safe space. There's no proper way to mourn for their losses, and all Claudia could ask is if they were given proper rest, to which Ezio said yes. At least... that lightens the burden on their shoulders.
