Bayonetta 2 - Chapter 1 B
Welcome back to the Gates of Hell…er, the bar, anyway. Would be a short game if all Bayo had to do was go to his bar and get Jeanne’s soul back! Here’s our first new weapon, Rakshasa! Dual blades (that can go on the hands OR feet!), they’re quick weapons with a charging slash that goes up two stages. They’re a wonder to behold in battle and come with decent range, but they seem to require a lot of effort to really lay in the damage. Based on curved Indian swords, Sosun Pattah, it takes its name from common Indian demons. The Rakshasa were known for being maneaters, born from the bloodlust of the deva Brahma. Neat little things! Too bad I forgot to equip them for the rest of this chapter! Oopsies!
Rodin’s shop largely carries more of the same from the first game, with the Mallet of Rewards serving as the only new Accessory so far. As far as Techniques go, we have some new ones. Witch Twist and Witch Strike are largely the same though, and Heel Tornado is also similar. That is to say, they are moves that’ll take you into the air. At least Afterburner Kick isn’t left all alone now, since there’s a punch variant! Charge Bullet seems…neat in theory but hasn’t been all that helpful to me as far as I can remember. Looks cool though! You’ll see that Portal Kick is gone though, which is fine with me all things considered. For those wondering too, Breakdance now has you shooting a spray of bullets regardless of the weapon you have equipped on your feet, so no strong kicks like with Durga or Odette. We’ll pick up Bat Within, Afterburner Kick and Stiletto…and also showcase that there are a TON of costumes to unlock this time around. All will be saved for later though!
Back to the game, we’ll come across a special device that’ll let us Witch Walk and meet…Valiance! Not only one of my favorite enemy designs in the game, we’ve faced this guy in the opening sequence AND he hounded us in the Prologue, so now it’s time to lay into him! Here is our first look at Madama Butterfly in full, too! What beauty! What grace! What disturbing brutality! And we’ll crash into the building and hear the cries of our little friend. But forget that, we’ve got stuff to deal with first! More portals, more chests…eh, he’s fine!
And now we FINALLY get an intro for these guys: Cachet and Compassion! Basically, they’re our Dear and Decorations for the game, but actually put up more of a fight. Not too scary though. Once that’s done, it’s time for the first instance of “walk and talk” segments. Bayo can walk around freely, but can’t attack or do anything until the sequence is done. You CAN mash through the dialogue at least.
We have a name! Loki! No, not…THAT Loki, right? The one that’s the only reason anyone sees the Thor films? Probably a coincidence. While he’s not a god of tricks and pranks, he DOES seem to have some importance if the Angels are after him. He’ll serve as a combo of Enzo and Cereza, in that he’s a child Bayo journey’s with, and a man that she can constantly emasculate. So its “Bayonetta” OR “Cereza”….how would she feel about Bayo, considering I use that near-exclusively? Heh…
We get the ability to concoct items now! Not that you’ll really need it, considering how they dump items on you anyway…nice of them to give you tons of ingredients though! This level just keeps going! More chests and more fights! Here’s Urbane too! There’s nothing refined about this thing at all though! Annoyingly hardy and possessing some ranged attacks, they’re a threat, but not too bad overall…
Why there’s ANOTHER portal to Rodin’s shop is beyond me, but we’re almost done…just a hidden verse or so to go and…what is THAT thing?! “Sovereign one?” And a prophet? This thing has been hounding us since we got here, and there’s nothing QUITE like beating it down and getting a PURE PLATINUM. Take that…you! With that, we’re FINALLY done with Chapter 1! 13 Chapters?! Wow. A ton happened there, huh? I need some time to decompress…
