Sunsoft was great at pushing the NES's capabilities, and Fantasy Zone might be their best showcase. They managed to faithfully port over the entire arcade game, without having to replace anything like Sega's own Master System port. The only thing that feels off is how much damage your standard bullets do; I play the arcade version all the time and I swear the Dolimicca boss never took me half as long to kill as it did here.
Also yeah, Sega publishing an NES game is pretty weird, though it was before the Console Wars so maybe they didn't care too much back then?
