Time to listen to that overused and overplayed music track.

Don't get me wrong, I like the tune. I just wish people would stop using it at every possible opportunity for some shit animation or something.

Anyway, what can be said about this level..? Not a lot, to be honest. Like the previous game, Wily Fortress levels are generally very simplified compared to Robot Master stages, and often will explicitly demand use of special weapons/items to progress*.

The boss is one of those things where Capcom once again decided to just ignore what the NES could comfortably handle, and as such we get sprite flickering all over the place and the game turns into Glitch Man 2. Also for whatever reason, damage knockback here is absolutely obscene and can often result in falling into the void (never mind that Mecha Dragon immediately kills on contact). At least the Mecha Dragon is put away easily enough by Quick Boomerang, if you just hammer the buttons and get reasonably lucky. I hate this boss fight. The platform-jumping before the fight is fine, I have no issue with this sort of design. But trying to fight an insta-kill boss over a huge void of nothing, with all this sprite flickering, when I only have 3 blocks to work with? This is no good at all.

*Is this a bad thing? In many cases yes it is, especially when limited use of a weapon/item comes into play. In fact it's executed abso-fucking-lutely horribly a few levels from now. The issue isn't with needing a special ability per se, it's that there is no other way around the obstacle if you manage to screw up and drain the weapon energy. You have to go back and farm the ever-living fuck out of minor minions before you can try again, which is no fun and serves only as some sort of weird time-wasting penalty.
