MiSTer FPGA - Mansion of Hidden Souls (夢見館の物語) / Sega CD (Mega CD)
**Warning: Heavy composite scanlines used in this video! Watch fullscreen @1080p quality to reduce visual noise/banding.**
I picked this one out randomly to see what it was about, and it seemed like a good one to include for the Halloween round-up this year. Sure, the framerate is terrible, it has the trademark Sega CD dithering and general pixelated look, but with some heavier scanline filters I think its a bit easier to stomach.
This game is mildly interesting and focuses around a young boy trying to rescue his sister from a paranormal mansion, where people are turned into butterflies. You get to meet a good number of people who were previously changed into butterflies, each with their own distinct personalities and clues as to what to do and where to go. Some of the puzzles are awfully cryptic and take careful observation of the rendered environment at parts, in order to know how to proceed.
I ended up playing through the whole thing here, and included a "bad ending" to show what that is like as well, about 60% of the way through. (timestamps included)
This game supports the Sega Mouse peripheral, but I would strongly suggest not using it, since it just acts like a gamepad and has no onscreen cursor, making it much less optimal than using a simple controller.
