MiSTer FPGA - Zombies Ate My Neighbors / SNES (Super Famicom)
First time trying this one, and its pretty damn fun! It's an overhead run and gun shooter with various monster enemies and a large variety of weapons and special powerups to use. This was developed by Lucasarts at the same time they were making Day of the Tentacle for PC, and as a result there is a hidden DOTT themed level, complete with Tentacle monsters and everything! It will be fun trying to find that in the future when revisiting this.
This is one of the rare halloween-ish games that has multiplayer, and should be a blast for two people to dive in to and smash some ghoulies together.
One gripe I had about the game is item management. There is a dedicated button to rotate both the main weapon and special item, but you will quickly get so many items that it becomes difficult to quickly switch to the one you are looking for, and if you accidentally scroll past it, you have to cycle through everything once again to get to it. Also odd for SNES is the amount of dithering used in the game. I'm guessing this was a choice made during development to make releasing it on Genesis and SNES around the same time, a bit less work. Also, be sure to save at least one neighbor from each area quickly! If you fail to get to them before a monster, its *instantly* game over. I learned that the hard way at the end of this run.
In European regions, the game was censored and had the title changed to simply "Zombies", though even in the US, Nintendo forced Lucasarts to change the color for much of the blood and gore in the game into purple colored ooze, before release.
