Gushing:
A viewer submits something hilarious and Soya bounces off that to make an actually super true serious point, sasuga Soya and Shisemin. People who really like a character or whatever don’t like them because of all their booru tags and aesthetic traits, but that’s what your brain often jumps to to try to rationally explain those feelings. “Oh well I like her because I like blue hair,” etc. But most of the time, people develop those preferences for aesthetic traits because a character they like has them. If a vtuber gets a new outfit, 99% of their dedicated fans who really like their character are going to find it gorgeous, whether they would consider themselves fans of that hairstyle or fashion style in general or not. The character is the “base,” as Soya says, and I really appreciate her reciprocating that same attitude back to her audience when they’re so dedicated in supporting her. I hope she realizes her weirdness is the same way, though: We like it because we like her. Wouldn’t have it any other way. 0:12 “Shinja” literally means a religious believer of some sort, but it can also refer to a dedicated fan of something or someone. In Soya’s case, she is sometimes called “Shise GOD,” with “shise” being her infamous meme misspelling of “shiawase,” meaning “happiness.”
0:27 Soya reads the first part of this sentence slightly different from how the submission is written, which is more like “until now it was nothing I was really worried about.”
0:29 “Oshi,” derived from the word for “support,” refers to someone’s favorite idol, vtuber, character, etc. An oshi is usually considered a pretty serious thing, much moreso than a “favorite” in English, hence why even drastic measures like armpit hair growth tonics might be considered for the sake of supporting an oshi.
1:04 Soya often uses a variety of first-person pronouns, including in this clip:
Soya: Her nickname, different from her family name’s normal pronunciation of “Souya,” although she’ll often just pronounce that as “Soya” anyway. She changed her first-person pronoun from “Ichika” to “Soya” so that people would call her Soya because it’s easier to egosearch.
Watashi: Standard choice that leans slightly formal and slightly feminine.
Atashi: Lazy way of pronouncing “watashi,” more casual and more feminine.
2:07 This is a pun between “kimi” (君) meaning “you” as in Soya’s earlier phrase “kimi base” (‘you’re the base’), and “kimi” (黄身) meaning “egg yolk,” since “base” is often used in a cooking sense to mean a principal core ingredient. For example, “kimizushi” is a type of sushi that substitutes the base ingredient of rice for egg yolk (kimi), giving it a “kimi base.”
