Gushing:
All in all a really touching clip. Kiki being healed by the note blocks is absurdly adorable (even her just hitting them casually the whole time like a fiddle toy is great) and the mental image of her grandma the “tamer” being friends with the tanukis and chucking snakes into the stratosphere is hilarious. Kiki’s poor health stands out even more if that’s what her family’s like, huh? She says her grandma’s strong, and she’s right, but I think Kiki is also really strong to have come so far despite the million and one illnesses, diseases, conditions and more she’s stuck with. She may not grab snakes, but she grabs our hearts.

Translator’s notes:
0:05 Kiki refers to her family members (and Rene) with the colloquial honorific suffix -chama. -chama is a combination of the familiar -chan and the formal -sama honorifics, and is often used in a dorky way to sound somewhat respectful without being too formal or distant. (Although with Rene, she gets called “Rene-chama” by many people due to her contrasting personality traits.)
0:16 Here, Kiki starts to say a couple different conjugations of the verb “ireru” (to be taken in or let in) before switching to the verb she used a few sentences previously, “tsureru” (to take someone with you somewhere).
0:26 A “super bathhouse” is a type of Japanese bathhouse that has an extra wide variety of services, often including saunas. So like a supermarket, but for bathing.
0:59 Kiki’s usual first-person pronoun is “Kiki.”
3:24 Oinyan is the nickname of Kojo Anna’s nephew, a combination of “oi” (nephew) and the “nyan” in her own nickname “Annyan.”
