Splatoon 3: Good things come in threes in Rainmaker [14(6)-6, Tri-stringer]
I do okay sitting back at range to start with, and move up as the Rainmaker sits free. A squidmate grabs it, so I push forwards to support, and that's when I get hit by ink. It happens. I return and continue to get confused about my charged shots falling through the grates, which even when I know it's going to happen I don't account for it. Meanwhile, the Rainmaker is moving backwards, which makes it easy for the orange team to take the lead when they pick it up. Still, I get a nice splat when a Tacticooler becomes a target, and a second one near the Rainmaker, right before it splats me.
I tidy up a bit as I return, just in time for an orange Inkstrike to mess everything up again. I jink to the left and keep shooting, as my squidmates recover really nicely by moving the Rainmaker over the one-way block to steal the lead back. It wasn't much of a lead, to be fair, but we got it back. I support from the rear some more, dropping down to get back in to range. I also remember my Toxic Mist, which discourages movement nicely, and I catch an inkling trying to hide behind a wall.
My squidmates move the Rainmaker towards the checkpoint, dropping it a little short, and I try to keep the turf purple, only to be jumped by the Tri-slosher. Our Sploosh-o-matic deals with them, but that's not enough to encourage a super-jump back. One bold squidmate pushes through one of two Triple Inkstrikes to reach the checkpoint, which is good, and I try to dodge them, a move complicated by an added Splat Bomb.
I find myself alone as I return, so I do the sensible thing and hide behind cover for the moment. The orange team aren't moving the Rainmaker, which helps, particularly as when they do move it I fail to lead it, at all. I should have done better. But at least our team hitting the checkpoint first retains our lead when the orange team also manage it. The orange team barrage us, but we hold firm, and a squidmate daringly moves the Rainmaker behind the scenes, no doubt running down its timer, but getting it clear around the other side. And they keep going! They almost increase our lead.
Toxic Mist and a Killer Wail helps keep the orange team at bay, and the Rainmaker is burst free quickly. I grab it on the run and dash, just to increase our lead, which may not be sensible but feels good, as my squidmates deal with the aftermath. I super-jump back and start shooting, adding some threat if no splats, which gives our splatted squidmates time to recover. More Inkstrikes come in, which I just about manage to dodge and head back a bit.
I turn defence in to attack when an inkling in purple ink turns out to be orange, and somehow bag myself a triple splat. I don't covert it to a quad. With thirty seconds to go, the orange team have a lot to do with the Rainmaker, which starts with them jumping off the stage. It's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off. No, because we get it back, then stop them quickly just before overtime hits. Woomy!
