What If Infinity? Volume 12 mostly focuses on different outcomes from different points in the event. First, Steve allows Thanos and his forces to join the Avengers in beating back the Builders, and their combined teams turn the tide, with some members even finding comradery with the mad titan. Steve still doesn't trust him, but he shelves his doubt after his hesitation gets Gladiator hurt. As they fight through the Builders command ship, Steve discovers the reason for the team-up was so Thanos could find and eliminate his son, and Thanos kills them all. He claims Steve was killed by the Builders and leads the Avengers to victory, and later takes Steve's place in the team proper. Next, the heroes who went into space are all defeated by the Builders, forcing Black Bolt to side with Thanos and use the new Inhumans he awakened to fight off the invaders. Thanos rules Earth unopposed, but, thanks to Black Bolt's loyalty, the Inhumans are allowed a haven free of Thanos order. Later, the Inhumans search for and eventually find a weapon that will end Thanos and his rule. But Thanos and the Black Order also hear of it and attack the group. Most are killed, and the weapon reveals herself to be Dazzler, who uses Black Bolt's ultrasonic abilities to create an extremely powerful laser that vaporizes Thanos and his forces. It's also revealed Black Bolt killed the remaining Avengers to ensure a truce with Thanos, and an enraged group of Inhumans splinter to form their own Avengers to one day rise against Black Bolt. Next, the Builders are defeated, but at the cost of Earth and seemingly everyone on it. What remains of the X-Men float aimlessly through space, looting derelict ships, when one day, a ship bearing the last of the Avengers appears and docks with them. The mutants are at first thrilled to discover that more heroes survived and start to catch up, but Rachel discovers they're being mentally controlled by Supergiant and the teams attack each other. Cannonball and Sunspot cause an explosion big enough to sever the link and Sam takes the opportunity to locate and kill Supergiant. The two teams join together to create a new X-Men and search to rebuild their world, with Sam as their leader. Next, at the end of the event, the Illuminati manage to secretly imprison Thanos. But Rocket hacks into the Iron Man suit and discovers what they did, thus they head to Earth and steal Tony's armor, which Rocket repurposes and uses to infiltrate and stun the Illuminati. The rest of the guardians fight off the team, while Rocket frees Thanos, and the guardians and a number of heroes they convinced to help stop Thanos once and for all. They threaten all of Earth to never go into space again, and the cosmic heroes celebrate their victory. Finally, during the events of Dark Reign, Norman learns of the Infinity Gauntlet, and, with an army of supers, hunts down and seizes all the gems. He creates his own gauntlet and uses it to destroy all who opposed or could oppose him, easily taking over the world, and even trapping Peter in a time loop to forever relive Gwen's death. Unsatisfied, he plucks his abusive father from the past and shows him all this to gloat to the man who thought him useless, even rewiring his mind when he still gets no appreciation. They return to Norman's empire to find his army slaughtered by Thanos, who demands the glove back. They fight, Thanos telling him he'll never find love and satisfaction, and Norman kills him, revealing he doesn't care as long as he has power. But, distracted, also wipes his father from existence, realizing too late that without him, he also never existed, and vanishes along with him. There were some really good ones in this volume, with the X-Men being my favorite, while the Guardians one is funny and exciting and Dark Reign has a great scope and lesson about the perils of absolute power and ambition. The other two aren't bad, but don't really stand out. But everything is worth it for this Regular Show reference.
