City of Déjà vu, huh? We’ll get a better understanding of that moniker later…For now, we can see the Gates of Hell can be selected now before we even go into a chapter. Neat. We pick up where we left off with Bayo now stuck. That miniboss totally wrecked the path forward, and now here’s Jeanne again! You know its odd seeing Jeanne on a motorcycle. I mean, Bayo doesn’t have one and she’s clearly supposed to be Bayo’s “rival” character of sorts. Hmm…

Remember when I said Jeanne isn’t the expositing type? OOPS. And so here we go, learning a bit more about their past. Our first fight with Jeanne is…admittedly a little more frustrating than I would have liked. Seriously, I’ve done this fight several times before and she’s NEVER run from me as much as she did here. Witch Walk is a fun ability…but when the boss repeatedly changes walls on you and you have no way to quickly zip over to her…yeah, it’s kind of a pain. Would have been nice if that tutorial prompt went away too!

And so the memories begin to flood back! Bayo knows Jeanne’s name…and how to perform Witch Walk. When the moon is full, Umbran Witches can defy gravity and walk on walls with relative ease! I mean, the sequence doesn’t last TOO long its neat! And here the Dear and Decorations make their appearance. We’ve seen the Decorations as far back as the tutorial stage, with no Dears in sight! (Man, these names are weird)

Now we see a blending of mechanics. Both the combo walls and statues combining together. I was hoping I could be super cool and grab that crow before it even moved but…guess it doesn’t work that way! Either way, I got through, and now we can explore the streets of Vigrid. Hey, got our first health upgrade, very nice! But its not long before we get ANOTHER cutscene.

Meet Luka, a bumbling, if somewhat suave investigative reporter. Now we know what that bug and trailing car was all about, huh? You just knew Yuri Lowenthal had to be in this game somewhere, huh? Poor Luka is a little out of his league here, not even able to really see or converse with Bayonetta while she’s in Purgatorio, though he can smell her apparently. Remember some of the lines he said here though; that’ll be important later. But yeah, Bayo uh…one of your signature guns is NAMED Rosemary, so…something isn’t adding up here.

I apologize for this part being so cutscene-heavy, but we’ll be back into the action next time for sure. Until now, I’ll leave you with a bit of a cliffhanger!
