How to Mute Game Sound & Chat with Settings on PS5 (Best Method)
3Muting game audio and chat on your PS5 can be done in a few different ways, depending on what you want to mute. Here is a breakdown of the best methods.
1. The Global Mute (Quickest Method)
The simplest way to mute both game audio and chat is with the dedicated mute button on your DualSense controller.
Press the mute button on your DualSense controller (the small button with a microphone icon below the PS button).
Pressing it once will mute your microphone only. The button will glow orange to indicate your mic is muted.
Press and hold the mute button for a few seconds. The button will flash, and a notification will appear on the screen indicating that all game sound and chat have been muted. This includes both your microphone and all audio coming from the console.
2. Muting Only Game Voice Chat
If you want to mute voice chat from other players in games but still hear the game's sound effects, music, and your own party chat, you can use the PS5's system settings. This is a great way to avoid random players in-game.
Press the PlayStation button on your controller to open the Control Center.
Scroll to the Sound icon (a speaker) at the bottom of the screen and press X.
A menu will pop up. Scroll down and select "Mute Game Voice Chat."
When you turn this feature on, you will no longer hear the voices of other players in game chat, and your voice will not be heard.
Note: This setting does not affect party chat. If you're in a party with friends, you will still be able to hear and talk to them.
