Gushing:
I love the back-and-forth Kazaki has with her chat, it’s always really funny but still really chill and it never comes across to me as too combative like a lot of other people’s banter with chat. The way she casually proclaims her ridiculous way of spending her free time and the way she makes up a pantsu schedule just completely on the spot is amazing. Chat isn’t on screen and I’m not good at video editing so I did my best with my subbing tools to show all the relevant superchats as they appeared, I hope that’s helpful and looks okay.
Usual disclaimers:
I make these clips in large part to practice my not so great Japanese. My friend Cherem helps me with them which I really appreciate and makes them a lot better. I like to leave detailed translator’s notes to provide extra explanations and help people understand why I chose to translate certain things in certain ways.
Timestamp to make it so youtube doesn't interpret my TNs as “chapters”: 2:32
Translator’s notes:
0:06 “Otome games,” literally “maiden games,” are a genre of Japanese games/VNs featuring a female protagonist and centered on their relationship with one of several male characters.
0:11 Although it can be pronounced several different ways depending on the word/context, the kanji 大 is referred to as the “dai character” in this case. The expression she uses literally means “I formed the dai character” and refers to lying spread-eagled with your arms and legs stretched out to the sides. Also I want to mention that Kazaki uses a ridiculous amount of filler words/verbal pauses and I’m not going to include them all in the subs since it would make them hell to read (she talks fast enough as it is…), but do be aware that every time you hear her say “ano,” that’s like an “um” or an “uh.”
0:39 Of course, the joke here is that a ¥5,000 superchat is pink.
1:39 Here she says at first “shimama” when she means to say “shimauma” (zebra).
2:03 They do sometimes refer to what we’d call “stripes” with the English word “border” (especially clothes), but usually I would think of striped pantsu as being called “shimapan,” and Kazaki reaching for a word for “stripes” is quite silly either way because “shimauma” is literally “striped horse.” (Searching for “border pantsu” in JP pulls up mostly pictures of actual striped pants (not underwear), whereas “shimapan” pulls up what she’s actually talking about.)
