Well this clip is both hilarious and a tear jerker at the same time. For those who don’t know, in the time since this was streamed, both Mimi and Hashiba retired from streaming due to health reasons, which makes Soya’s analysis a little dark in hindsight… But I still wanted to do this clip since this stream is such a classic (I love Soya’s ranking series) and I’ve had this one my list since before all these tragedies kept happening. There’s so many great memorable lines in this clip, phrases like “friends with the spiders” and “suck water from grass” that just stick in my head, even stuff like “you won’t have that opinion for long” really gets me.

0:29 Soya is very inconsistent with first-person pronouns, and I want to note this because the way she uses a nickname as a first-person (sometimes) is worth mentioning and while I’m here I might as well explain the rest, too. The first-person pronouns she switches between in this clip are:
Soya: Her nickname and generally her usual first-person pronoun (sometimes...), “Soya” is different from her family name’s normal pronunciation of “Souya,” although she’ll often just pronounce that as “Soya” anyway. She changed her first person pronoun from “Ichika” to “Soya” so that people would call her Soya because it’s easier to egosearch.
Watashi: Very common first-person, generally considered a good default. Leans slightly formal and slightly feminine.
Atashi: Lazy way of pronouncing “watashi,” more casual and more feminine.
0:40 “Tasukaru” (助かる) is a Japanese meme term that means literally “that helps me” or “that saves me,” the idea being that she saved this viewer’s life by doing that. It’s a very easy to use expression great for when a vtuber does something cute or nice (or sneezes), especially since it can be abbreviated “tskr.”
3:35 “G” stands for “gokiburi,” meaning cockroach, which are often considered such a terrifying menace that they’re referred to as such rather than by their full name.
5:51 A “minka,” literally “house of the people,” is a type of traditional Japanese house of a certain age that originally referred to the dwellings of the non-samurai castes.
8:05 “Youkai Bey-Mawashi,” or ‘Bey-Spin Youkai,’ is a nickname of Izumi’s that portrays her as a beyblade-spinning youkai that haunts people and keeps them up at night with beyblade noises to poke fun at her tendency to play beyblades in the middle of the night. (Disclaimer: I don’t know anything about beyblades other than what I learned looking this stuff up.) 8:17 What I assume would be spelled “Beys-chan” (direct transliteration: “Beisu-chan”) is a strange term that I believe Soya is using to refer to Izumi here because she has just become synonymous with beyblades in Soya’s mind.
9:01 Mugi-chan is Haneru’s toy poodle.
11:49 “Hage,” meaning “baldness,” can considered a rude term when used to refer to a bald person and can also be used to mean “idiot.”
