Splatoon 3: Splatted too often in Salmon Run [40-26-32-xs, 27/1033]
We didn't quite make it down to low tide before the basket popped up. Now what are we supposed to do? Collect eggs under cover of the cannons, I guess. We head off, only for a Cohock to display blatant favouritism, panning me in to the water and Frosty to safety. So it goes. Time to get serious. The Big Shot is splatted, eggs are shot to the basket, a Lid is brought down. Frosty steals my cannon, so I collect more eggs, splatting a flopping Flipper as I do, before failing to bring down a Lid before a Cohock collects me. A bit of collaboration gets me up and splatting again, and the area is clear of most things but eggs. At least for a moment. I find more Cohocks when I get in to a cannon, and even retreating to a more distant cannon only gets me different attention. But we get a nice tally of eggs and head on to the second wave.
There are walls to ink as the tide comes in, which I take as seriously as Chum take splatting me. I get back on track quickly enough, using the L-3 Nozzlenose to ink turf and splat Chum. Dropping down to get an egg sees a Stinger waddle on to shore, so I splat that to get its sting out of the way, only for another to start shooting at me. I pause to splat a Steelhead and dunk an egg, and think about splatting a Flyfish too, but a Maws nibbling at my squiddy toes convinces me to keep moving. Yet another Stinger pushes me on from a second attempt at the Flyfish, and them a Chum splats me. Things could be going better. Frosty to the rescue, though, as we drop to one squid standing, and more revivals are needed as the second wave builds to a crescendo, but we scrape through to the final wave.
I deal with a Fish Finger to start with, before my Dapple Dualies get nowhere near a Steelhead. I try to deal with the salmonids closer to the ground, although finding time to focus on the Flyfish, as their proliferation is starting to cause problems. Scrappers are nice and easy to deal with, but as time is running out I pull out a B-bomb, aiming at a pair of Steel Eels wandering past the basket. I think it helps, and I just about get out of some drizzle to start cramming needed eggs in to the basket. A Stinger splats me, and I'm revived in to inky chaos, which I feel lucky to survive until the end of the Run, as we meet and exceed our quote. Or is it the end of the Run?
A wild Zuna appears! I have the Dynamo Roller, which feels like it should be useful. It's good for clearing Chum and Cohocks, and plenty of bosses, but maybe I haven't got the hang of rolling in to the Zuna yet. A Steelhead's bomb pauses my efforts, and after I'm revived to go back to splatting bosses conventionally, although inking the Flipper's landing zone is a close thing. With more bosses out of the way, I try to squish the Zuna a bit more, which may be helping, may not. The good news is that we throw enough eggs at it to banish it for another day. Woomy!
