Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Well, we should be looking for that mysterious Grass Man, but we need to find a circus as that's where he would be. The problem with that is where it's currently located and parked which is on an island with the town of Tunlan. We can't even get there right now so we're going to need a way to ride on the ocean.

To help with that, we're finally going to put Jean's giant frog transformation to good use. Just head to to docks outside SimaFort, then find the river that's going south and follow it as the giant frog. You'll see a couple signposts on your east side along the way. The 2nd one you see is where you want to go east to a hut on the end of the coast.

At this hut is a dragon statue you can use to change up your party. For the next dungeon, you will need Katt for her field ability of whacking things in your path. Otherwise, you can choose the other two members.

Inside, there's a man by a gate. He's going to let you check out the Whale Cave as thanks for saving him from Trout. Head forward and down the ladder to a piece of fence you can break with Katt, then take the hole down to where an old man and two dolphins are.

As we quickly find out, the Whale Cave is, in fact, the inside of the body of a whale known as Grandpa (Clever name there folks!). The problem is that Grandpa is sleeping a bit too much ever since he swallowed up some kind of statue. We're going to have to find this statue and either take it for ourselves or beat it up.

Won't take long before running into the local enemies that made this whale into their new home.

Cuttlecabs or whatever that lovely abbreviation is supposed to mean are water borne enemies that do nothing but attack or spam Protect...sometimes casting the latter twice on the same enemy.

Hermit Crabs are too high on the offensive side of things, but they have lots of defense. Only Katt is really able to punch through their defenses...and even then, needs at least three attacks with a bit of help from the other to drop just one. This is where Bow's Shot ability makes a difference. Too much defense? Try to instant kill them then!

Fastmen seem useless with their physical attack...that is, until they decide to bust out Lightning and do 70-90 damage to everyone. Not so useless now, are they?

V. Heads like to be annoying with Recover spam (100 hp healed for one target) and high defense, but are otherwise not big damage dealers.

C. Sludges are extremely rare slimes that can do some light attacks aside from a Fire Breath that hits for 35+ on everyone and have extreme defenses. Also loves to run away. Worth lots of experience if you can kill one.

Great Lizards should be watched closely. If one gets buffed by Might, kill it fast. Otherwise, its physicals will hit very hard.

Now, to clearing this rather simple to navigate dungeon.

As you go north, you'll see the Adam's Apple that Katt has to whack when you've located the statue and dealt with it. Pass it and head north into the next room, a huge room with bubbles you have to navigate around. Just keep hugging the eastern wall to reach a chest with an IronBand. Now find a way north. At the entrance into the next room, take the side path going west to a chest with 100 zenny, then go back and take that entrance northwards.

In the next room, there are two side paths, one going west, the other east, and the northern entrance into the next room. Take the east path and follow it through a couple rooms to reach a chest with a StrUp, then back to the 2nd room to take that northern entrance into the next room.

In the 3rd room, just go straight north into the next one, then go west, then north to an an entrance Katt needs to whack with her staff to open up. Inside is some Golden Armor. Exit the room, then go east to the next entrance going north and keep on going north until you find the statue.

What happens when you examine it? Boss fight!

Munmar only does two things...a physical attack with decent damage output and Horror, a move that can inflict sleep on everyone. Easy.

After the fight, return to the Adam's Apple, smack it with Katt. Grandpa awakens and offers to haul you around the ocean as thanks. The two dolphins from earlier suggest going to Tunlan. A good plan, but first, to a cave on the shore to get the Whale Bell. By going to any shore and examining it, you can summon Grandpa and swim around.

After saving, my go to trio for Ryu (Rand, Sten, Nina) rejoin him to help find the Grass Man next time!
