Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Last time, we were about to go on a quest for icky bugs to save our hides.

For now, we want to go do some quick shopping. To get to the shops, head south to the stairs, then go north after you head down them, then east down the stairs into the water. Follow it to the boat, but take the stairs up to the double doors back into where Jean was first detained.

Make your equipment purchases now. This is going to be a fairly lengthy excursion so have some extra healing items on hand. Also make sure EVERYONE at least gets some kind of armor upgrade.

With that taken care of. Just go straight north through a pond area and up to the throne room, then take the door on the right to go up into a bedroom. Examine the switch next to a painting to make it move, then head up the stairs in the next room to reach the roof. Free the guard up here to have him mention Fiolina.

Fiolina is in that pond room right before the throne room. There should be someone doing a painting next to her. Mention that you've seen Tata and she'll go running off to help him. Back up to the roof to talk to Tata and he'll ask if you want anything. It makes no difference here as the end result is him giving you keys to unlock the doors up here.

The door to the west leads to a chest with 1000 zenny and stairs that lead to a dead end. The door to the north has some buckets you can hop on to take down into the basement. Won't be long until you run into the gold fly. After he clearly kicks the tail of a soldier, he turns his attention to your team. Not much you can do as he bolts after 4-5 turns. Not much of a threat unless you're my Ryu.

After talking to the soldier, two paths are presented. The one on the right I take first, but in all honesty, you should go left first. I'm just a silly critter and do things all out of order here.

In any case as I go right, you'll see a couple chests in an adjoining room. Quite easy to make your way over there via a couple room transitions to grab a Potion & Guts Belt.

Going north yet again leads to...bugs!

But first, random enemies!

Poltergeists are rather unremarkable except for being spiritual enemies, thusly being a little more resistant than usual to attacks.

Arachnods are likewise unremarkable.

Mimics though are worth mentioning for one reason...a move called Zombie which can make a character rot, also known as turn purple. After a full round of combat has passed, him or her will turn into an actual zombie. He/she will physically attack the team and not much else. The catch? You get a game over if everyone turns into zombies. Thankfully the Mimics only can apply that to one person at a time at max. They also drop lots of zenny which is nice.

Back to the roaches...lots on the way with several you'll have to kill. Fairly high hp, tends to critical on occasion, but not really a giant threat.

After swimming through lots of roaches, you'll find the G. Roach in a room. Joke fight basically as even my abysmal defense Ryu can take two hits before needing a heal. The experience is enough though to push Sten & Nina up a level with Nina's level up to 14 resulting in her getting Heal.

After battle, you get one of the three ingredients for Jean's dishes.

Now...back through the roaches and going on the path I was supposed to go. It's a linear path until you hit a bridge which gets busted up by a J. Worm which you'll have to fight.

The J. Worm has only two moves which are its physical attack with a decent chance to go critical and Sweet Breath to inflict sleep on everyone. It can also counter attack which is so nice for my low defense Ryu.

After the fight is over, you pick up another ingredient. Only one more to go which is that damned gold fly!
