Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Time to set sail on our beloved Grandpa for a cave, but first, a bit about our recently acquired secret character.

Bleu has definitely lost some of her spell knowledge over the years, but still, she has some good ones to spam like Lightning, Flame, and Typhoon...at least until she levels up and learns even stronger nukes of course. The problem is that right now, she's level 35 when the rest of my team is barely into the lower 20s. I'll likely use her when leveling up low level people for the time being until people catch up with her.

As for her unique ability, it's Shed. In exchange for a defense debuff, this move will fully heal Bleu.

Now, time to exit Hometown and hop on Grandpa via the southern beach. Head west around the landmass and head northeast to the bridge that leads to Coursair. Right next to it is a cave entrance. Head inside.

Not going to bother talking about the enemies because all of them are jokes aside from the upgrade to the harpy type enemies...and even that is barely passable at this point.

Anyways, head northeast while snagging up a chest with a Coin in it. Taking the exit in the northeast leads to the next room where you should end up at fork with two exits going north or south. Take the south to a chest with an Ocean Robe, then go north until you reach a room of people. One mentions how to catch an Uparupa so listen in, then head north into the next room. Go north, then take the stairs on the left up and follow it to a hole. This should be the 2nd one from the wall on the left.

What you need to do is plant an Owl Fruit in front of the hole, then get back. When the Uparupa comes out and eats the fruit, dive in and attack.

The Uparupa never seems to attack itself, but can counter attack extremely frequently. The counter hits do ~40 damage. So long as you don't let someone low on health do a physical (Or derp and somehow use a Revive when you meant to use a Potion, that works too), this fight will be easy. Nina picks up a new spell, Freeze, from a level up she gets from the exp gained in this fight.

After the battle, you're given a choice to take the Uparupa or free it. Choose the latter and it'll leave a chest for you with a Buster Sword in it...and no, that is in no way related to Cloud Strife of FF7 fame's weapon by the same name, heh.

If you exit this room and come back, the chest has another item in it, the Defender Shield.

Back to the first room of this dungeon. Take the exit that's not in water in the northwest part of the room to find a chest with a Quarter Staff for Katt, then get out of this dungeon.

Return to the circus outside of Tunlan and go speak with the Chief. Say you'll give him nothing which will prompt a transformation into, surprise surprise, a demon, and thusly he attacks your party.

M. C. Tusk like to, as he puts it, slap a target for ~50+ damage. I think he's got some kind of attack that hits everyone too, but he was more concerned about smacking my highest hp unit some. Poor choice of target dingbat. Just fry him with fire attacks until he goes down.

Afterwards, the Grass Man, Spar, is freed. Seems Spar already knew that the forests around Gate have died off and wants to talk to the Great Wise Tree in the forests to the west, thusly he joins the party. Make sure to add him to your party right away.

Spar is a red mage kind of spellcaster, getting everything from recovery, to support, to attack spells, but not getting all the powerful stuff as quickly as others. He makes up for this by being quite tanky for a mage. He is slow though sadly. His unique skill is Nature, a move that may call in help from the earth to do random beneficial things. Sometimes it fails though.

Spar also has one unique thing about him...where as everyone else gets two different changes to their appearance via fusion, one of them being a palette swap, Spar gets a palette swap fusion...and THREE unique alternate forms. Nifty!

Anyways, from Tunlan, head back to where you first boarded Grandpa by Whale Cape. From the beach, go southwest with Spar in the front to take advantage of his walking through forests ability and enter a giant tree. Spar picks up his first spell, Slow, from leveling to 13 while making my way there.

At the Great Wise Tree, help is requested by Spar, but of course, since he was gone for so long, the tree's memory kinda went to hell and it wants the Therapy Pillow from Tunlan...the place where we can't talk to half of the folk there.

Oh well, back to Tunlan to save up. Something will be figured out next time I'm sure!
