Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

I say we go get Bow's name cleared up finally. Guy's probably dying for some level ups right about now.

Back in Hometown, head to Trout's manor (East of Kilgore's). Talk to the guard outside and everyone's brought inside. Trout & Patty have a bit of a scuffle with Patty saying Trout's the real thief in this neck of the woods. Trout, obviously, denies this. He has your party examine the manor to prove this claim. Head to the basement, then come back up.

Back outside, Kilgore approaches and wants to speak with Bow personally. Heading back to Township, the party is rearranged to include Bow as well as Nina who is going to get de-fusioned for a bit and, of course, Sten for warping around the map.

After arming Bow with the best equipment available (Which I picked up off screen, hence the large reduction in my money reserves) as well as fusing him with Sana which, while it won't change his appearance, will boost his attack some, it's back to Hometown.

At Kilgore's manor, put Bow in the lead and talk to him. Kilgore apparently doesn't trust Trout...so much so that he wants Bow to steal from him once again. Bow agrees to this as he too suspects something is up with Trout. He wants to do this alone, but asks Ryu if he wants to tag along. If you answer yes twice, that will happen.

Me though? Bow may be lv8, but he's more than enough for this mission so I go with no.

Once the scene switches, Bow will be fighting a Footman. They can counter attack, but as long as Bow is decked out in the best armor available while also having a pair of Defense Bracelets equipped, he won't be taking much more than 8-10 damage a hit. Two hits from Bow's Flame Crossbow (Purchasable at Hekkeller's shop in Township) will put the enemy down.

Inside Trout's manor, you'll want to go to the same room that Ryu's group was asked to check out by Trout. Do the same go down the stairs and back up them ruse as before, then Bow will hide as Trout comes into the room via a hidden panel on the wall.

After he leaves, head down the stairs past the hidden wall to a prison. Make sure Bow is healed up, then go see Patty in the back of the prison. Patty says she was right...and she was!

Cue in Trout who tries the classic rpg "Join me and you'll become more powerful/wealthy/evil than you've ever been before" routine. Bow more or less tells Trout to shut it with that kind of talk.

Trout's response? Turn into a demon, attack Bow.

Trout only has two moves...Protect which he'll likely put up within the first three turns or a physical attack which will steal zenny equal to the amount of damage inflicted. That might seem scary until you realize you're taking maybe 10-15 damage a hit.

If you have a Power Pot lying around, throw that onto Bow, then waste the bug with physicals. If Bow gets enough lucky criticals like he did for me here, he can take out Trout before losing all of his hp. Most likely though you'll need a Potion or 1-2 castings of Heal. Bow gets enough experience from this fight to shoot up to lv13, picking up the Smoke spell in the process.

Patty thanks you for the save after the battle and hands over the Magic Hood before leaving.

Back at Kilgore's manor, the man himself says for Bow to keep the Magic Hood as a sign of gratitude.

Guess that means we can now pack our things and go chill at the beach, right?

Nope. The subject now turns to those that have turned into demons. Augus, Joker, Kuwadora, and the recently crossbow'd to the face Trout. Something is definitely amiss here. Confirmed tenfold when the forests around the town of Gate, the town where Bow & Ryu were once kids, rots away to a pale brown.

Outside of Kilgore's manor, try to exit town to the south and Silvia will stop Ryu & Bow, telling them to head to the guild quarters right away.

At the guild, the basics boil down to this...giant freaking demon, monster hunters can't deal with it, they want off the case.

The description of the demon states it has three eyes and the body is covered in a hard shell.

Translation? This demon is the same one that was in the cave near Gate ten years ago.

...Well, damn. This just turned south quickly.

For now though, not much can be done. The Elder suggests finding the person known as the Grass Man (Not all a robot Dr. Wily made). Perhaps he can offer an explanation as to why the tress around Gate have gone kaput.

For now though, the team saves up at a nearby dragon statue. There's a detour I need to make before I can start trying to find this Grass Man.
