Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Secret waterfall cave indeed!

Two chests in here with a Dust Devil attack item and a Circlet, a helmet that would be a sizable defensive upgrade for Nina.

The real reward though is the old man in here. Talk to him with Ryu and he'll unlock new dragon powers for him which are stronger versions of his previous dragon moves, hit everyone, and cost 15 ap. Yeah, Ryu will only have the ap to use them twice, but the damage is worth it, especially if he hits a weakness.

Now, back to Witch's Tower. Remember the petrified shaman from before? We can pick her up now that Nimufu was defeated. Get to the 5 moving platforms room and, assuming they're numbered from left to right, take platform #5 to get to Seso, the water shaman. Make your way out of the tower after this.

Levels were had during this excursion with Jean getting Weaken at lv11 and Nina picking up Lightning at lv12. Nina's Lightning will wreck any non-lightning resistant mobs, severely damaging them to the point where the other team members can easily get killing blows.

Next, to the south side of the SimaFort lake. There's a dock you can enter to get a new warp point for zipping around, a guy who will let you rest for free, and a dragon statue. I use the latter to put Sten in my party so I can get back to Township.

After using the Defusion on Rand, I go to fuse both the fire & water shamans...to Nina. Doing so gives you the first instance of a character's appearance changing. In Nina's case, she turns into some kind of holy maiden...angel...thing. It is amazing though as Nina's stats spike up something fierce. She has attack & defense right now that can rival Rand of all people, a scary thought.

Nina's new form also trades out Will for Banish, a move that attempts to make all enemies run from battle...for no experience gained. What a lovely trade, but whatever, Nina's ap is sky high so she oughta be fine.

One last stop and that's the cave entrance next to the secret waterfall cave. This is the Wildcat Restaurant, an interesting area. You'll be asked to leave your items at the front door and to turn in your equipment for various food related items. Say yes to all of these options (You'll get all your stuff back when you leave, don't worry). When you're asked how you want your meat cooked, respond with rare, then in to the next room.

Surprise, it's a grill! Your whole party takes some damage, then a chef comes in and wants to cut everyone up into bite sized steaks. Cue a fight with Wildcat.

Wildcat can actually be scary. Because your equipment is a whole bunch of napkins, plates, and forks, your defense is terrible and his physicals can do 30-50+ damage. That's scary and all, but it's 1000Cuts that is the real threat. This is defense ignoring and can do as much as 100-110 damage if you're unlucky. Considering I have limited ways to revive right now (Ryu's Raise, Rand's Wake), this can be nasty.

One other thing...if you have a fused character who gets into critical hp or gets killed, the fusion is broken. You can probably guess what happened to Nina.

I probably should not have brought Jean to this area, but eh, whatever. Captain Rand was able to keep up a constant level of damage, even with two ko'd units. The experience from the fight pushes Jean to lv12, teaching him Fragile, while Rand hits level 15 and picks up Barrier, a very useful buffing spell that reduces damage from spells.

Now into the next room. Talk to the chef who's closest to the register and he'll ask you some questions. For his first one, you can answer either way, but saying yes lowers his mood towards you. The second one is a repeatable question. If you say no to that one, it'll lower the chef's mood towards you and he'll keep asking the same question until you say yes twice.

At this point, he'll give you a reward based on his mood. If his mood (which is indicated by the crystal on the corner of the text box) is orange/dark yellow, he'll boost the hp of all your current party members by 16 permanently. Nina would really like this, but the reward for the chef's mood being light green is better.

That reward will allow you to give whomever is in the lead the 1000Cuts move the Wildcat was using on you. Costs 1 ap, does ~50-80 damage that can't be blocked in any way. Nina gets this, giving her a cheap move to spam while saving her ap for groups of enemies to fry with Lightning.

Back to the docks outside SimaFort to save up because that place is a pretty huge one and also a significant point for the story as well. It'll be tackled next time.
