DISCLAIMER:
The unexpected sequel by Archi has arrived! Supposedly this wad was going to be 12 new maps that were much more challenging than the original Rush (I'd say it's as hard as Alien Vendetta, if not maybe even harder). However, it's not finalised, meaning that not all maps have been added to this wad. Respectively, that is up to Archi.
Therefore, I will not be speedrunning these maps, as due to the wad not being finalised, there isn't exactly any competition, nor does it sound like a smart idea when these maps could get updated in the future. I am only playing the current 6 maps that are available because I am not the most patient person and anything Rush related will instantly hook me.
COMMENTS:
The idea of this map sails smoothly in my mind. It's very much common that there will be levels in which you are surrounded by strong enemies. However, I believe I have found a trick as to easily beating these kind of levels.
In this case, you can very quickly escape the first room, as long as you activate the 2 switches that are well tucked away. You can instantly start the second phase, and then start the third phase once you've horseshoe shuffled your way around to the switch. Easily this is the hardest part of the map, as you can quickly get cornered by revenants and other enemies, and you can also catch stray cyberdemon rockets, which are just the worst. In this attempt, I somehow survived a face rocket. and swiftly made it out of the first room straight after.
The next fight is simply loads of cacodemons and pinkies, with mancubi sniping you from below. The fight is actually pretty easy since you have the BFG in hand, and you can wisely use it whenever you feel crowded. Just make sure you keep track of ammo. There was never an attempt where I died to this fight.
Then, once you've let the infighting party happen in the box, you can enter back into it to do some clean up, and then finish the level. Just don't forget about the 4 arch viles that appear when you trigger the secret. I find it's better to do that later than early, since they can be a real nuisance when initially escaping the first room.
I thought this level would be hard on first playthrough, but replaying it has been a lot easier, and i'd go as far to say that map 1 was actually harder than map 2. In conclusion, once you've escaped the "deathbox" and into the outside, you're pretty much gold. The challenge may look menacing to some players, but in the end you learn to appreciate it, since it does help your fear of being exposed in the open.
