Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Ryu versus the world right now as he heads towards the town of Coursair to find out where this female thief went to.

Head back towards Hometown, but watch out for a bridge going east after you get off the mountain. This is where you need to go...and oh god the pain that comes after you cross the bridge.

Biruburus? They can counter attack. That wouldn't be a problem except for the fact they can do 15+ damage a hit and take at least two or three hits to kill. Yes, they can appear in groups of two. No, it isn't a pleasant experience if that happens before you get into Coursair like how that happened to me.

There's also Tsi Flies. They're faster than Ryu most likely, can do decent damage, and randomly use an attack with a chance of inflicting poison. I'd rather have these than the Biruburus though.

Anyways, at Coursair, luckily it's nighttime for me as there's someone at the pub I need to talk with.

First order of business...upgrades at the armory! Ryu should pick up some Ranger Clothes and a Bronze Helm, then head over to the item shop to stock up on supplies like Potions & Ethers (Damages an ally for 20 hp, but recovers 20 ap for that ally).

Next...items in town. There's a Herb in the church's 2nd floor cabinet, a Smoke in the pub's 2nd floor cabinet, and a Clothing & Herb in the inn's 2nd floor cabinets.

Now, head to the pub when it's nighttime. If it's daytime, either use TimeWarp or talk to the bartender to speed it up to nighttime. Talk to the muscular fella by the door in the back. There's no more tickets for getting into the fight at the colisseum, but he suggests entering yourself into the tournament. We'll have to find a certain someone though for whatever reason.

Exit Coursair when you're ready and head north into the Tag Woods. I get "lucky" and run into a new enemy on the way, Eatermans. They don't do a whole ton of damage, but they do have Sweet Breath, a move that inflicts sleep. Oh yes, they're faster than Ryu for the most part. Have fun with that.

Anyways, Tag Woods...just going to run straight to Baba in here and grab any chests on the path, then grab everything else on the way out.

First though, enemies!

Docadens have a decently powerful physical, but it's their Firebolt spell that is painful, dealing at least 30+ damage. Luckily it is slow so Ryu can heal up if he takes a Firebolt to the face.

Bugbears are odd critters. They will either use a physical that never seems to miss or use a critical hit attack that can do 20-30 damage. Faster than Ryu most likely.

Harpies are nasty. Faster than Ryu most likely, a physical that can do 20-25 damage, and may show up in pairs. If that happens, you are going to be in a world of trouble.

To get to Baba from the entrance, go north to a chest with 100 zenny, then west to hitch a ride northward, then east from that location you get dropped off at to another wild rope ride east. Go northwest to claim a Smoke from a chest, then go south until you see a way west. This leads to Baba who think Ryu is going to be in trouble for asking to take Baba's place.

Naturally, he attacks!

Baba's surprisingly easy compared to some of the enemies in the forest. Yeah he's faster than Ryu, but Baba is all alone. Just heal when you hit half hp and you should be fine.

After the battle, Baba decides not to enter the fight and gives Ryu his ax so he can enter in Baba's place.

Return back east, then go south to a chest with 100 zenny. Take the lift up north back west, then go southwest to a chest with a Coin before taking the lift going south. Head east, north, then southeast from where you get off to reach a Herb, then get your tail out of here.

Me? I get trolled like hell by an Eaterman & Bugbear and Ryu dies. Game over...or is it? There's a mechanic in the game that can allow a person to not die when his or her hp reaches 0, allowing them to revive with a small amount of hp. Ryu luckily hit this chance and was able to use the Potion he had queued up and finish the fight off.

After that harrowing experience, it's back to Coursair for a fight!
