Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Time to hoof it to Windia. Head north of Coursair, then west at the signpost. Keep going west until you can go north, then do so until you can't go that way any more. Cross the bridge to the west and you're home free!

That is, unless you run into W. Bears. Powerful physicals (30+ damage), a chance to counter your physical attacks, and possible critical hit chances which can knock nearly 50 hp from Ryu. I'd like to mention that he's also the most defensively sound of the trio right now and Nina...well, she only has 52 hp and the worst defense by far. Put two & two together if a critical hit goes her way.

Oh yes, W. Bears appear in pairs almost all the time. Fantastic...

After reaching Windia, you'll find out you're in a special maze instead. Apparently it's needed to keep intruders out. The guard at the entrance will only let you through if Nina is with you.

No encounters in this maze, just a few individuals who mention of a person with black wings bringing despair to Windia...or that's how the legend is supposed to go. That might be a problem because Nina's wings aren't exactly pure white right now.

Anyways, to get through this maze, just go a bit north, then follow the path as it goes west for a few screens, then south. You should be at a fork going west or east. Go east, then immediately go south on the next screen. Should be able to find some stairs after going forward another screen.

These stairs lead to a pond in a castle of sorts...with like five guards greeting the team. Seems a bit harrowing, but the queen steps in, thanks the team for finding Mina, and has the guards escort everyone outside...Nina included. Welp, I guess her wings aren't exactly flying well with Windia's legends.

After gaining control, go south to see a monkey trying to get someone to jump into his mystery box. Out of the blue, he just picks Ryu, has him get in the box, and makes it disappear. When the girls inquire as to where Ryu went to, the monkey, Sten, says he went to another dimension. As he tries to woo one or both of the girls, Ryu appears...from the ground. Yeah the box apparently was an elevator into the earth for our hero.

Katt does not like being lied to and gives Sten a good whack of her staff. After Sten tries to make up for his wrongdoings, he decides it's best to follow you all around and take orders. If it means a 4th party member, then I'm game!

Sten doesn't have the raw attack power of Katt, but he's almost as fast as her and can wear heavy armor, meaning higher defense. That's good because his hp at the moment is barely better than what Nina has. Stick him in the 3rd spot in your team with Nina in the back and Ryu & Katt up front. His unique skill is Rip, a move that makes him play dead that turn. It may make enemies think he's dead or they may just decide to go snipe Nina in the back row.

Make a trip to the armory to upgrade defensive equipment for everyone, especially Sten & Nina who could use that extra defense right now.

As for items in town...both are in cabinets at the 2nd floor of the inn. You'll get a Hickory Staff & 100 zenny in the process.

Now, talking to people around town will reveal that a burglar was seen going west. Perhaps that's the thief we're after so we'd better follow.

During the trip west, a whole bunch of not W. Bear enemies greet the team on the trip to the next town.

Kimotos aren't special. Not a whole lot of damage unless they are paired up with an enemy known as Stooly. Stoolies use a physical from time to time, but they like to debuff your team. Debuffing your defense is one such thing they can do and, if it hits, means Kimotos can hit quite hard at 40+ damage a shot.

K. Goblins...weak!

Deathpedes can potentially poison the entire party and also have a high amount of hp.

About halfway to the next town, you may find an area with a hut that houses monster hunters. If you chat with the people inside, you'll hear about Owl Fruits and how a girl appears when they are in bloom. There's nothing else to do here except grab the Potion from the cabinet and keep on moving west to the town of Capitan.

During the trip here, Katt & Nina pick up new spells. Katt gets Weaken while Nina gets Exit. Nina's spell oughta be nice to get out of annoying dungeons quicker.

At the town, go and grab items around the cabinets in the area. There's a Tanned Armor & Tolen in the 2nd floor of the inn, an Ether in the house next to it, and a GutsUp in the easternmost house.

Save up at the dragon statue, then prepare to dive into a well next time.
