Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Time to see what's down that well on the west side of town.

Upon going down it, you're greeted by a monster, but a bishop saves the day by banishing the critter. This bishop, Ray, says that a child disappeared in this dried up well and that the entire town is looking for him, but didn't know a monster was on the loose. Clearly not the one that just got banished...nor the one that rushes in from the east to attack the party.

This enemy which is called a Creon has quite a bit of hp. All it does is a physical attack for ~30+ damage, but it has an ability where it may do an additional physical attack on the same target as the first. This means that people like Sten & Nina are at risk of being dropped from full hp if this 2x Hit ability goes off.

After the battle, Sten picks up the Simoon spell from a level up. A pretty powerful single target spell that costs 4 ap. Gives him a nice offensive option, but save his ap for boss fights since the others can wreck randoms pretty well otherwise.

Also, Ray. He wants your help in locating the kid and saving the townsfolk. Agree to this and you'll all go in the western entrance where another Creon is. While I'd like to kill the critter myself for experience, Ray decides to take it on himself while the rest of the team goes onwards.

In the next room, there's a bunch of turtles floating between platforms. A couple of the platforms have Creons on them you'll need to kill.

The two chests you can get by turtle surfing are a Moon Drop (120 hp healing for all party members) and a Talisman (Accessory that blocks curses).

Also in this room is that kid everyone's been searching for. Talking to him reveals that he was playing with a turtle and got lost...in a linear room...with no other ways to go except back to the entrance. What the heck kid?

*Monster comes out of the water*

Ok, maybe that's why!

Terapin has three potential moves it can use. First move is one that takes control of a character (and cancels out their action if it's someone that is slower than Terapin like my Ryu is). Granted, all I ever saw a controlled character do is physically attack. If it could make someone like Nina cast a spell on the party, that would be scary.

Second attack is one where it tosses a piece of its shell at a target to do 50-60 damage. Nina might be one shotted by this if she's at a low level.

The final attack is the worst though. Terapin shakes the earth and hits everyone for 35-40+ damage. Nina floating in the air doesn't help a damn bit for her sadly.

Oh yeah, that hit all attack can be used in back to back turns so you need to heal up from it right away or be subject to what happened to Sten (Who got saved by getting a random second wind, but still!).

Just wail away with your strongest attacks. Don't be afraid to bust out that Moon Drop if the situation calls for it.

The experience from the fight pushes Katt up to lv13 and Sten up to lv11. Sten picks up the very valuable Warp spell as a result. Costs 5 ap and allows you to warp to any town you've visited so far. This will be needed in a bit, but first...the well quakes!

After getting back to Ray, a wall of water comes rushing at the party. Ray uses psychic powers to keep the wall of water at bay while asking the party to find the villagers.

There are a total of six villagers in this soon to be not dried up well. Some will be fine. Most though have a bug on them called a Chiroru. You'll have to enter into battle, but watch it. You can target the villager and kill him. Just focus a full on assault of physicals on the Chiroru and it should die in a few hits.

Oh yeah, more Creons too for experience!

Once you've saved all six villagers, return to Ray and tell him to drop that barrier and get out of there.

Back in town, Ray thanks you for his help and is offering to give you St. Eva's blessings. He wants to be taken to the place where members meet.

This place? Ruins! In the original game, you would have to walk ALLLL the way back there on foot. Not so with Sten's Warp spell!

First though, the team detours to a hut north of Capitan. Nothing special here aside from an old woman who doesn't like people barging into her hut unannounced and a cabinet with a Revive in it.

Warp back to Ruins now. You'll see the place has been spruced up quite a bit. Inside, Ray will give you the chance to go around and talk to people before deciding on who gets his blessings.

That comes next time!
